MR. TODD SIMMONS (Markham Location)
Mr. Todd Simmons is an accomplished 6th degree black belt. He began his Taekwon-do career in 1985 and achieved his first degree in 1990 and has over 30 years teaching experience.
He recently established his first ITF Taekwon-do School located in Markham, Ontario in October, 2018 and operates the school as the Head Senior Instructor and personally teaches each and every class. He has competed and participated in numerous national Taekwon-do championships and three (3) world championships resulting in a silver medal in Malaysia (1994) and a gold medal in Greece (2003).
He is also a promoter of local community programs and prior to opening his own school, Mr. Simmons taught for many years as a volunteer in many community centres throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Mr. Simmons has also successfully completed numerous seminars and Instructor’s courses, including ones taught by the late Founder of Taekwon-do, General Choi Hong Hi before his passing in 2002 and continues to attend International Instructor courses, not only enhancing his own knowledge but to give his students the best possible training he can.
MS. OCTOBER NEWTON (Scarborough/Markham Locations)
Ms. October Newton currently holds the rank of a 6th degree black belt in Taekwon-do and has been teaching the art of Taekwon-do for over 25 years. She established her Scarborough, Ontario location in May, 2012 and personally operates the school as the Senior Instructor and teaches every class. She recently opened up a second location in October, 2018 in Markham, Ontario as co-owner.
Her martial arts career began at the age of nine and attained the rank of first degree black belt in 1990. Over the last two decades, she has competed and participated in numerous national and international Taekwon-do events representing Ontario and Canada.
She is an active member in the Taekwon-do community and has also successfully completed a diverse variation of seminars and Instructor’s courses to always advance her own personal growth and martial arts knowledge. In 2016, Ms. Newton was selected as the Head Coach for Team Canada and led her team to the Junior and Veteran’s International Taekwon-do Federation World Championship held in Andria, Italy. In 2019, Ms. Newton was also selected as one of the Head Coaches for Team Canada and led her team (which included 5 of her own students from her Newtons School) to the World’s International Taekwon-do Federation held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In November, 2016 Ms. Newton held and hosted her first Taekwon-do championship, which event now attracts hundreds of competitors each year from different countries and has become one of the biggest open Taekwon-do championships in Canada. In September, 2017 she received a citation award from the Taekwon-do Hall of Fame being recognized as an Outstanding Traditional Taekwon-do Instructor of Canada.
She has also worked under the guidance of the ITF Special Needs Organization and has diligently assisted and supported in getting special needs Taekwon-do into Canada and presently offers special needs classes at her school.
Mr. Simmons and Ms. Newton are both rare instructors who are highly experienced in the genuine and authentic Taekwon-do techniques and teachings. Their sincere passion is teaching the art of Taekwon-do to children and adults of all ages and they are truly committed to ensure that the quality of teaching of training and knowledge their students receive is authentic, genuine and rewarding. They personally teach each and every class and their teaching is a reflection of their true commitment to this art as they particularly take an interest in each student’s development by helping them to overcome their weaknesses, as well as enhancing their special abilities.
